Laphroaig 10yo Cask Strength, Batch 001/Feb.09, 57,8%
Scritto da Claudio Riva il 02/09/2009
Since 2009 limited bottling of Laphroaig a gradazione piena are available at the distillery.
This new series of Cask Strength will be probably realising 1 or 2 expressions a year.
This is the first one, the batch #001.
The idea is simple, nice and everyone liked it. The collectors, who now have new material, the fans and Laphroaig’s connoisseurs, who desired a variety in the production and who wanted to find differences between one batch and another.
The bottle doesn’t look very fine, with a tacky red stamp, on which we can find the alcohol content (57,8%), John Campbell’s sign and the batch (001 – Feb.09).
The production of each batch is estimated at about 5000 bottles and at the moment the product is just available at the visitor centre of the distillery (I recently found 3 bottles at the Whisky Museum on the Royal Mile of Edinburgh).
The current 10 years Cask Strength (55,7%, with the red stripe on the label) is subject to availability and will be replaced with new Cask Strength.
When you drink this product you feel a strong and bothersome taste of alcohol. If someone’s in a hurry – and I suggest to start thinking about a new hobby – he’s better to add some water to taste the real flavour of this Laphroaig.
To drink the Cask Strength, which became my favourite standard bottling of Laphroaig, you need to be patient. A dram of this whisky has to last about 30 minutes at least, you have to get to know it slowly and respectfully.
