Laphroaig Day 2009 report (09/03/09)
Written by Claudio on 01/10/2009On the 9th of March 2009 we organized in Milan the tasting “Laphroaig Day”, in collaboration with Collecting Whisky.
Collecting Whisky association, as it is written on the website, aims to the diffusion of the culture of Scottish malt whiskies. These are the words of our friend Andrea Giannone:
"Our strengths focus on a precise and deep knowledge of the distilleries, of their secrets and of the people, who with their passion, give us the possibility to taste with a simple move, 500 years of history. Searching for the most exclusive and refine malts, and the possibility of tasting them during events dedicated to the members, are our means to follow our objective."
We offered 4 official bottlings – the Quarter Cask, the 15 years, the Triple Wood and the first Cairdeas (bottled for the Feis Ile 2008) - together with an independent bottling, the Islay 5 by High Spirits of Rimini. The tasting has been spaced out by our interventions, through which we showed our “I love Laphroaig” club and revealed some behind the scenes of our favourite distillery.
Surprisingly, we had an audience of more than 70 people in front of us, really a lot for a Whisky tasting. This confirms how much Italians love the peaty Whisky of Islay.

As a custom in “Collecting Whisky” tastings, participants were asked to fill up a schedule with their judgements about the pleasantness of the whiskies, divided into nose, taste and final (numbers from 1 to 5). In succession we report the medium results of the schedules, from which it is clear that the Cairdeas is most beloved whisky. This is also a merit of the distillery which is working hard to take its original taste back in time.
